Homer Hickam/October Sky

Abstract: A 4 pages essay that discusses the different people who had an affect on the life of Homer "Sonny" Hickam. Originally entitled Rocket Boys, Homer Hickam's memoir of growing up in a mining town in the late 1950s and his involvement in amateur rocketry is a classic coming-of-age story that demonstrates, not only how perseverance and hard work can make dreams come true, as Hickam went on from amateur rocketry to have a successful career at NASA, but also how various adults can have a profound impact on helping young people to achieve their goals and dreams.
