Alcohol abuse occurs at all stages of life and can be triggered by a number of variables, not the least of which includes genetic predisposition, psychiatric disorders (depression, anxiety) and peer pressure, the latter being particularly associated with college-aged binge drinking. Prevention is the key to avoiding detrimental physical and psychological consequences of alcohol, however, treatment options exist for those who slip into the cyclical trap of abuse.
