Adolescents : Substance Abuse With Dual Diagnoses

Abstract: A 12 page paper that begins with data regarding the incidence and prevalence of drug and alcohol use and abuse among adolescents. Data are provided by age and ethnicity/race and the effects of alcohol and drug dependency are reported in terms of personality and cognitive changes. Data regarding the incidence of arrests of youth dependent on drugs or alcohol are reported. The writer explains and discusses dual diagnoses, including the most common psychiatric diagnoses associated with substance abuse among adolescents. Research reporting the prevalence of dual diagnoses among adolescents with chemical dependency are reported and discussed, including a study that focused on runaways.
