Abstract: 5 pages in length. Social theory has long attributed animals to being a life-altering component to otherwise traditional approaches. It has been acknowledged for some time now that they possess an inherent quality that encourages people to express their most suppressed emotions when they would not do so with any other human being. Animals are cornerstones of strength during the most difficult times in life, offering silent support with no strings attached. Indeed, as much as an individual might nurture a therapy animal, the animal provides just as much emotional nurturing in return. At-risk youth and the elderly, two separate populations that often feel the rest of world has given up on them, take solace in the company of animals. Bibliography lists 8 sources.
