Abstract: This 10 page paper provides an overview of the issue of alcoholism in immigrant populations. This paper relates the fact that the problem of alcoholism is more prevalent in certain immigrant communities, including immigrants from former Soviet block countries (Russians). It can be argued that this is the result of a combination of psychological, sociological and psychosocial influences, all that influence self-perception, self-efficacy and the social acceptability of alcohol consumption as a part of the immigrant culture. Bibliography lists 15 sources.
