Erickson/Great Harry

Abstract: A 5 page essay that critically examines Carolly Erickson's biography of Henry VIII entitled Great Harry. Not only was Henry VIII one of the most pivotal figures in history, having been a major force in the Reformation, but he is fascinating n a personal level. Erickson does not attempt to offer fresh perspectives on Henry VIII as a ruler, rather her purpose is to construct, from a thousand "slivers of his reality" garnered from letters, official documents and dispatches, a composite picture of Henry VIII as a person, as "Great Harry." In this goal, Erickson's biography succeeds quite well. No additional sources cited.
