Abstract: A 9 page paper. Cognitive behavior therapy joins two effective approaches, cognitive therapy and behavior therapy, with the objective of changing both the individual's thinking patterns and the habitual behavioral reactions to certain internal and external stimuli. All three of these models have been found to be successful in treating a plethora of conditions. At least one research study concluded that combining cognitive behavior therapy with family based therapy was even more effective in reducing substance abuse among adolescents. But, why is it that the research reports different results when the same approach is used to treat substance abuse? This essay concludes with an answer to this question. Includes half-page abstract. Bibliography lists 7 sources.
