Specifically considered are why he was able to achieve such dramatic social change; what made him a leader, and why he was able to succeed where others before had failed; his devotion to religion and human principles; his sensitivity to the needs of the impoverished; his ability to sacrifice himself; his belief in nonviolence, and the influences of the activism of Martin Luther King, Jr. and Mahatma Gandhi.
