The Tobacco Industry, Legislation & The Economy

Abstract: An 11 page paper. There have been numerous laws and regulations passed over the last fifteen years that address the production, sale and consumption of tobacco products as well as the advertising for them. Legislation regarding smoking, however, began in the 19th century. The writer provides a brief overview of the history of legislation involving this industry, the effect of anti-tobacco groups on legislation and regulations, and the economic impact the tobacco industry has in the U.S. and elsewhere. Bibliography lists 11 sources.
