Advantages of Marijuana Legalization: Claim Of Policy

Abstract: 10 pages in length. To legalize marijuana would bring about monumental change in several areas of society: remove the temptation that surrounds the act of using marijuana; eliminate the need for black markets, robbery, murder and all the other insidious elements connected with illicit drug use; reduce taxpayer dollars that currently filter through the criminal justice system; and thin out significantly overcrowded prison populations. People would be left to their own accord as to how much and when they consumed without the infiltration of law enforcement authorities, thus enabling the crime rate to drop considerably and to finally establish societies where drugs are not at the root of virtually all criminal activity. Proponents who view the legalization of marijuana as something positive and productive have said all along that drug abuse itself is not the harmful aspect of an addict's problem; rather, the various conditions that surround the abuse are responsible for the physical and psychological wounds.
